Transport decarbonisation at the local level – how cities like Barcelona and Madrid are solving the puzzle

Tue 10 Mar | 16:50 - 17:20

With the EU Green Deal, Europe has committed to becoming climate-neutral by 2050. Several Spanish cities are even more ambitious, aiming to become climate-neutral by 2030, as part of the Climate-Neutral Cities Mission. For this, electrification of road transport is a key requirement, but it brings challenges and must be done in an integrated way – it is not just about zero-emission vehicles and charging infrastructure, but it must align with local policies such as SUMPs, parking and energy management. In this session, we will hear from Madrid and Barcelona on their experience and initiatives towards transport decarbonisation.
