Development of Light Vehicles
In addition to looking for better technologies that emit less CO2 per kWh, we should lower the level of energy needed. For many years, on the contrary, the size and weight of the cars produced has been increasing, for reasons of safety, comfort and because of the rise of SUVs that now represent more than half of the passenger cars produced in the world. Small, light, electric vehicles that need a small battery have a much lower global life cycle carbon footprint than big electric cars, but the present European regulations do not favor them. Quadricycles, already exist in Europe but are still sold in low numbers. Electric motorcycles and mopeds are more and more common in cities. Should not promoting light and efficient 4-wheel and 2-wheel vehicles be a top priority ? In this roundtable we will ask experts from motorcycle manufacturers as well as the end users what their position is, what their strategy is, and what their proposals to the EU.
